Maserati Indy 4900 del 1974 restaurata, colore giallo Modena, targhe originali.
Disegnata da Virginio Vairo e Elio Mainardi, fu presentata dalla Vignale al Salone dell'automobile di Torino del 1968, come prototipo di coupé due porte quattro posti, per rimpiazzare il modello Sebring. La denominazione "Indy" era stata scelta, in forma contratta, per ricordare le due vittorie ottenute dalla Maserati alla 500 Miglia di Indianapolis, nel 1939 e nel 1940.
Il lancio avvenne al Salone dell'automobile di Ginevra. Inizialmente la Indy fu offerta con un motore V8 di 4,2 litri. Dal 1970 venne offerto anche un più potente V8 di 4,7 litri. Nel 1971 fu reso disponibile anche il V8 di 4,9 litri della Ghibli, depotenziato da 335 a 320 CV: dal 1973 quest'ultimo motore restò l'unico disponibile della gamma lo stesso identico che monta la vettura da noi proposta.
Tutti i motori, dotati di quattro alberi a camme in testa, due per ogni bancata, erano alimentati da quattro carburatori Weber doppio corpo tipo 42 DCNF; il cambio era un ZF a cinque marce più retromarcia.

Designed by Virginio Vairo and Elio Mainardi, it was presented by Vignale at the 1968 Turin Motor Show as a two-door four-seater coupe prototype to replace the Sebring model. The name "Indy" was chosen, in a contracted form, to commemorate the two victories obtained by Maserati at the Indianapolis 500, in 1939 and 1940.
The launch took place at the Geneva Motor Show. Initially the Indy was offered with a 4.2 liter V8 engine. From 1970 a more powerful 4.7 liter V8 was also offered. In 1971 the 4.9-litre V8 of the Ghibli was also made available, detuned from 335 to 320 HP: from 1973 this latter engine remained the only one available in the range, the exact same one fitted to the car we offer.
